Outside the Box Innovation Workshop©.

Artists have great abilities to move people in new directions. For three select sessions, BlueRio Strategies will be tapping into artists’ skills for a new workshop. Susan Adler George, a well-respected East Coast Arts Educator and Artist, will be here in San Diego this July and has agreed to help me with the new
Outside the Box Innovation Workshop©.

This workshop’s goal is to:
  • Reduce stress levels.
  • Heighten creativity and innovation.
  • Spur “outside of the box” thinking for San Diego business professionals.

Class size will range from 3 – 15 people per each 2-hour & 4-hour session and on-site at the company’s location. It is based on a workshop that George, Jessi LaCosta's mother, has conducted in Baltimore. Ideally this workshop will be part of my facilitation programs for brand leadership and strategic planning. While these workshops will eventually be priced at $500 and up, to those experiencing it in “test form” the price will only be $100 - $250 for up to 15 participants in a session.

In the Found Object Canvas Art program currently run by George, students bring to class items normally slated for the trash. They range from buttons, lace, old neckties, business cards, plastic packaging – all things now recycled into art. George guides participants in thinking “outside the box” and tapping into creative juices as they apply these items to pre-painted canvases. Yes – even the canvas is recycled. Some people find paintings in their neighbors’ trash piles. Others bring in ones that used to hang on a wall. Occasionally some people will pre-paint new canvases with “Pollack” flair before arriving at class. Instead of discarding all these items reflective of personal tastes, memories and leftovers from daily life, now the students create a reflection of future possibilities. And they have new, cutting-edge pieces of sustainable art they take home.

A similar workshop could be extremely beneficial to teams stuck in strategic planning sessions or exhausted by traditional brainstorming meetings.  Still many others can benefit like those just needing a break from the incredible hours they are putting in as staffs dwindle and days become longer to meet objectives. When people can take an hour or two out of their week to free-flow ideas – to get outside the box – great things can happen:
  1. Stress levels are reduced.
  2. Innovation increases.
  3. Employee engagement and retention improves.
  4. Productivity increases.
  5. Bottom-line improves.

To test this theory, I am launching a BETA/test program scheduled for the first two weeks of July – offering it for a very reduced cost (range of $100 - $250 to cover preparation time, travel etc.)
  • The two-hour workshop is strictly art-based and used to free the mind for more innovative thinking.
  • The 4-hour workshop will blend the art with visioning goals for strategic planning facilitation and brand development.
  • There will only three slots available (one slot per participating team – may be either a 2 hour or a 4 hour workshop.)
  • Teachers will bring some supplies, participants bring in canvas and found art objects.

After review and analysis I will then search for a local artist for on-going programming who shares the same desire to help people with innovation and creativity and is in alignment with BlueRio Strategies’ mission.
